When I first got here, I would viscerally roll my eyes every time someone from base gave directions and referenced the “Triangle of Death.” For example, the director would state to the directee, “Go out the main gate, turn right, and then take a left at the Triangle of Death.” This common and accepted parlance all seemed very melodramatic, even to a marginally melodramatic person like myself.
Since then, however, I have come very close to an accident on several occasions in this particular intersection. Traffic is crisscrossing in every direction! Buses are performing complicated u-turns at high speed! There does not appear to be a right of way! There is a crazy cross walk right in the middle of it! If someone did die in the intersection, I certainly wouldn’t be surprised.
