Year Two, Week thirty-nine—Amber

walking home

My four-year-old was crying this week when we told him that no, we are not going to play in the backyard today. We are going to see a fortress. His life is so hard! Suwon has a beautiful wall that stretches around a good portion of the city and is complete with towers where cannons were fired and various gorgeous gates. And even an area where you can try your hand at Korean traditional archery. And ride a little tourist tram. I’m pretty sure visiting here was better than playing in our backyard. I can’t be positive, but I think my four-year-old would agree. I can’t believe these students get to walk along this path everyday on their way home from school. It reminded me a little bit of being in Europe, where everyone goes about their business in the midst of gorgeous, ancient history.
